I visited my hometown, Tallahassee, last year for the first time in many years. I was visiting for an old friend from high school’s baby shower. While I was there I took photos of another friend and her new baby...
Ashton + Steve + Baby Girl | Asheville Newborn and Maternity Photographer
What a sweet little family excitedly waiting for their firstborn. A baby girl! Ashton and Steve were so great in front of the camera. They are naturals. I loved taking photos of them in there home and right up the street. Yes. Those beautiful mountain views in the background of those maternity photos were right around the corner from their home in Asheville, NC. Oh the joys of being an Asheville maternity photographer.. I used to have to take vacations to see those mountains!
A couple of things to note to make your maternity session perfect.
Plan for a session between 30-32 weeks. This is the perfect time because you’ve got an adorable baby belly but aren’t at the point where you feel extraordinarily uncomfortable yet. Also sometimes little babes decide to come early! Planning for 30-32 weeks usually means that the maternity session won’t have to be canceled due to a birth. (Yes. I did have a client once who ended up giving birth literally the same exact day we had her maternity session scheduled)
Plan for some indoor and outdoor photos. I recommend indoor ones because I do in home newborn sessions. Yes. You don’t have to go anywhere with your brand new baby! As it should be. Its fun to have some photos in your home with the baby in the belly and outside of it. I mostly use natural light for my photos so for inside this means window light.
Plan on including family members. Husbands, children, dogs, cats, everyone. Maternity photos are about awaiting the arrival of a new family member. Mothers play a beautiful, miraculous role in this waiting that is evident to everyone who sees her. But I love to include the anticipation the other family members experience in awaiting the arrival of a little one.
