Rhett and Rose didn’t know what they were signing up for when we began this adventure. (I might add that my new motto is going to be “things don’t go as planned.”) So in typical March fashion there was snow. And so the Blue Ridge Parkway was closed. And so our original planned location near Asheville, NC was unable to be accessed.
Thats ok! We came up with another plan! We were going to visit Bearwallow Mountain Trail. It looked like it had a great view, and (more importantly) did not require the Blue Ridge Parkway. We were all very pleased and I began making my drive from Old Fort, NC as they began driving from Greenville, SC.
I arrived a few minutes early just to be prepared and THANK GOODNESS! I get there and theres caution tape all over the beginning of the trail and signs posted saying things like “Danger” and “Do not use this Trail” and “Please take road to top”. “A road?” I thought, “Perfect, we can take a road to the top.” Well then we take the road to the top instead of the trail, thats even better. Well of course then the road was also closed.
Yikes. Our trail is closed. Our road is closed. I have no service, the past 20 minutes of the drive here was basically unusable for an engagement session. And this sweet South Carolina couple is driving all the way from South Carolina to meet me here!
I hopped in my car and drove just 2 minutes further down the road and found the Holy Grail. In the middle of this no where there is a newish gated subdivision of some kind with the most beautiful mountain views. Not only that, but I found a little park inside of it with beautiful trees, beautiful light, beautiful views. I could not have asked for anything better.
I drove back to the original location in time to catch Rhett and Rose and tell them the greatest news ever. That Plan B also failed but Plan C is epic. Let me know if you agree…
