I visited my hometown, Tallahassee, last year for the first time in many years. I was visiting for an old friend from high school’s baby shower. While I was there I took photos of another friend and her new baby...

I’ve typically just done newborn sessions for In Home Asheville Lifestyle Photography. However I thought I’d share some recent photos of my sweet girl. Because as it turns out babies grow up. And she’ll be 2 at the end of next month.
Mima has gone through so many phases of her preferences regarding the crib. There was a time when she’d allow just Peter Rabbit and Baby (The yellow doll) and nothing else in the crib. Then she’d allow the quilt in there.
Then one day she began to exile everyone and everything (including extra pacis) from the crib.
Then one day she returned to the “Canon Crib Creatures” of Peter Rabbit, Baby and the Quilt.
Now she wants those and a couple extra blankets. She wants “Gigi” (the baby doll) in her own little bed beside the crib (not in the crib!)
When she wakes up in the morning or from a nap, she’ll reach through the rungs and bring Gigi (and any other nearby toys) into the crib to play with.
She also refuses to let Peter Rabbit keep his arms in his jacket. So he’s resigned to wear it like a cape since its sown to his neck.
Mima is a HAPPY kid. She tells me too. She’ll look up at me, smile and say “Happy”. Sometimes she says “HappyHappyHappy”
She’s currently LOVING being outside and asks to either go outside or in the car a minimum of 15 times a day.
She loves pushing Gigi around in the stroller. She’s also started enjoying to pretend feed Gigi and wants me to hold Gigi sometimes while I read to her (or both of them I guess). By the way, I think Gigi got her name as an attempt on Mima’s part to say “Baby” and it stuck.
Her hair is getting quite long. And its straight! I was expecting wavy/curly! So I’ve been working on bows and braids and things to keep it out of her face. Which is hard when all the child wants to do is run. But I suppose that’s what God made Mr. Rogers for.
As I’m sure with all parents, I’m pretty confident she’s the best child ever. But I know its nothing we’ve done. She’s taught herself just about everything and I’m constantly amazed by the things she decides to up and do.
She takes her bowl and spoon to the sink after she’s done eating. (Never told her to do this, she just saw me doing it and figured that’s what we do) If she finds any stray papers or wrappers around the house, she takes them to the trash can. (Again. figured this out on her own/ I think she mostly just loves the privilege of opening the sliding cabinet door that contains the trash can)
She’s started talking a lot more in the past couple months and seems more interested in trying to imitate what we’re saying. I’m not really sure how reliable her communication is beyond just me understanding her, but its progress!
Finally. She’s still obsessed with our dogs. She gives them hugs and asks them for kisses (to which Nala obeys). She also requests to walk Nala around the house on the leash. Nala complies and Mima giggles. And my heart melts.
A couple baby/toddler items we’ve been loving are:
This potty. (We potty trained loosely off of this book)
This kids author.
This baby doll stroller.
And I know I just linked to a bunch of amazon stuff.. I don’t get anything for that. (Though maybe I should figure out how to.) Just thought I’d let you know these are all 100% plain truth honest recommendations.

Hi Nicole!
Blake and I enjoyed your story about Mima. Blake says she likes Mima’s smile a lot. And I want to see Mima taking Nala on a walk around the house on a leash.
I hope they can play together sometime!
Great pictures!
