As an Asheville Newborn Photographer, I’ve spend a good amount of time with babies and their families. One thing they all have in common is they know the time is passing away and their baby is growing up. As much as you hear it, you never know until you see it happening before your eyes. Each day that little baby is different and wonderful. And you want to remember all of it.

There are two things that really speak to me about newborn sessions. This style has always spoken to me because its emphasis is on what is most important: connection and love. I think portraits have the ability to be wrapped in conceit or wrapped in gratitude. By putting the focus not on perfection but on the love we have for one another, it helps us become more grateful for the people around us. If you’re up in the middle of the night for the third time taking care of your little ones, and you see that photo of your family cuddled together, its easier to be reminded that you’re doing something greater than just waking up in the middle of the night- you’re caring for an eternal soul. That is a very special thing to participate in, even when the work is monotonous.

Second thing that speaks to me about newborn photography is collecting memories of all the little things. One day I was editing newborn photos for a client and my husband looked at the picture and said “I remember when Mima had those little dots on her nose.” Isn’t that sweet? There’s so many little things that change so fast and are so easy to forget. I want to take photos that help you remember the little things.

One exciting new change I’m implementing in my business is the studio wardrobe! With each session, I will be adding to a collection of dresses for mothers (and mothers to be) that will be available to anyone who books a session with me. I know that for me what to wear (especially while pregnant and after just having a baby) was super stressful. I want my clients to really enjoy the portrait experience and that means taking this stress point away and providing a solution.
