We hosted a Beatrix Potter themed birthday party at Robert Lake Park in Montreat to celebrate Mima’s first birthday party

Mima’s birthday fell on a Saturday this year. Her Mimi, Grandma, and Grandpa all traveled from far away to spend the day with her, and friends from church traveled from around Asheville to join us too. We had beautiful sunny weather and it was really truly perfect.

We made it Beatrix Potter themed, because… well you know… Jemima Puddleduck. I had so much help from the grandparents, they were amazing. It would not have ended up as beautiful and running as smoothly without them.

I was asked a couple times “Do you have anything planned?” Uhh no. Because Robert Lake Park is literally the greatest park I’ve ever been to. Theres a stream going through it! After cake and presents and such, the older kids started building a dam in the creek and some of them spent the rest of the afternoon there, I’m pretty sure. Unfortunately I didn’t take a picture of this.

On days like this though, it’s important to strike a balance between taking photos and being part of the day. However while standing in front of Mima while we sang her happy birthday and I filmed, I felt like a parent big time. There’s a funny term going around now called “adulting.” And if filming your kid while singing happy birthday isn’t it, I don’t know what is.
