I visited my hometown, Tallahassee, last year for the first time in many years. I was visiting for an old friend from high school’s baby shower. While I was there I took photos of another friend and her new baby...

Asheville wedding photographers don’t know how lucky they are!
Asheville Engagement Session Locations
We have some of the most gorgeous locations in the country within an hour radius of our homes. I have loved visiting these locations for various engagement sessions and weekend hikes.
This engagement session was my first time visiting Black Balsam Knob. I must say I wanted to just stay all weekend. It was so beautiful. Black Balsam Knob is one of the “balds” near Asheville, NC. You can access it after a scenic drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway. It is called a bald because its a bald mountain top. Apparently they are not high enough in elevation for alpine vegetation but they are too high for natural vegetation, so you get balds, Sound of Music-ish mountain tops.
Preparing for the Engagement Session
Candice and Cody did an amazing job at their engagement session. They nailed the first step which is dressing for the occasion. Candice picked out the perfect engagement session dress for this location because its so flowy and looked just beautiful blowing in the wind.
Which brings me to my second point of they did an awesome job sticking this out. It got really cold and windy up there. What was a sunny spring day in Asheville, became a windy winter day on the top of this mountain. I don’t think any of us were prepared for it. But they went with the flow, and I’m so glad because some of the very best photos were captured towards the end of the session.
I love candid, natural photos that show real emotion. These usually take some time of everybody warming up. I always plan for the best light to be coming out towards the end of the session because by then we’ve all gotten more comfortable. (It can be weird to get all dressed up and go take photos on a mountain top! And that’s ok!) However days like this, it can be hard to stick it out because as time goes on, we all get more and more cold!
Also not pictured is Chelsie. I just wanted to give her a special shout out. She came along with Candice and Cody to take care of Abigail (that cute little dog) during the session. She was a wonderful help, so thank you Chelsie.
