When should newborn photos be taken?
The best time to take newborn photos is between 7-14 days. Infants change so fast. After 2 weeks, they’ll start to be awake more and their bodies begin maturing out of their squishy little new life state.
How far in advance should I book my session?
It is best to book your session at least 3 months in advance. I only take on a limited number of newborn sessions a week. Because of the unpredictability of due dates, I’ll need to have a window of availability for you. Once you give birth, you’ll send me a text or quick call letting me know and we’ll solidify your date. If you’re planning on having a maternity session as well, this should be scheduled for around 30-32 weeks.
Do I need anything?
Nope! Just yourself and your tribe…. A pacifier helps too.
What do I wear?
Wear sweats, yoga pants, leggings, doesn’t matter. You can choose a dress from the studio wardrobe. We also have kids and dad clothes that coordinate well.
What if my infant has jaundice?
Usually by waiting until 7 days after the baby is born to have the newborn session, jaundice has cleared. If not, you have nothing to worry about, I custom edit every photo to perfection. The skin tones will look natural. In addition, if you let me know ahead of time, I can be sure to choose colors that won’t bring out the yellow in the skin.
How long will the session take?
This depends on the baby and siblings. Because the photos I take are very natural and minimally posed, the session is usually complete in 2 hours if the baby is 2 weeks old or younger.
How many photos will I get to see?
I deliver 20+ images. These will include photos of the baby by him or herself, the baby with siblings, each of the parents and the whole tribe.
Do I get my digital images?
Yes! I have 3 different collections for newborn photos and they all include the digital images. You can take a look at my collections here.
Do you have a studio?
Yes! I have a natural light studio in downtown Black Mountain. If you have older children with you, we’ll take family/ sibling/ and dad photos first so they can go enjoy the town while mom and baby relax in the studio for the rest of the session.
What should I do for hair and makeup?
I work with a local Hair and Makeup Artist I highly recommend coming to the studio early for her to do your hair and makeup.
